History

The Delphos Public Library dates its beginning as 1900, located on the southeast corner of the square. The first librarian was Grace Bedell Billings, the woman who, as a child persuaded President Lincoln to grow a beard. The modern history of the library began in 1969, when the Delphos Woman’s Club began dreaming of establishing a library, and in 1970, Bernice Rice offered space in the former First National Bank, where we still reside.
